End of May

So this month has been pretty crazy with work, all in total 8 different project were done. some for a client and some for Uni. tomorrow is the last one of the month. here is that at its stage right now (not completed yet, going to be another late night I think)

Things need to change like the back ground and the colour of the dragon.

so thats for tomorrow and next is yesterday presentation work. Screwed as you seen from the previous update (if you haven't seen it check it out) is moving a long nicely. I want to show what the other guys presented and show you some videos they have done. Now becuase we presented so many videos im only going to show you a select few. First being the previs which was constructed by all of us.

Second is James Morrissey's dynamic tests first one is sparks which I think works very well and the second is smoke.

Third is penri mainwaring (he of course is Welsh). brilliant animator check out his site http://penrimainwaring.dispossible.com/ he did quite a few animation tests and i thought these are the best to show.

Fourth is David Bevan, he rigged the cars and did some of the props for the track.

Fifth is finally me. you have already seen most of my work so ill just show a breakdown of the ferrari I developed as well as the mclaren.

This is a very small part of what each of the guys have done, but over the next couple of the weeks when we go full steam into production stage. I will hopefully be showing some of the stuff my team are doing and what i'm doing to of course.

Thanks
Rich

production methods 24th

hi.

so here is the final update on my production methods. the actual task was to research into an area that you haven't really got a lot of knowledge of. so I chose to create a realistic image, my kitchen. I'm sat 5 feet away from so good reference. the last presentation I presented this image below

I know for a fact this doesn't look real, so I chucked away all the lights a started a flesh, got rid of the steel textures on the left a applied a layered shading network to them like the one below.

gamma corrected the textures, when I brought them in they are already gamma corrected. so I had to conpensate for that otherwise it would gamma correct the texture twice and it will look washed out. I corrected this by adding a gamma correct node and changed the values to 0.454. maya gains the three values and calculates it to one

Portal lights were then used instead of spot lights. final gather was also turned off and a Area light was used to grab the ambient occulsion values and soften the darker areas of the scene. with all this done I gained a image like this.

Much better result!!

Rendering several different passes I managed to comp a final image and breakdown together. here that is.

I will persue this in the future. it was good to gain some techniques that I can apply to later projects.

Thanks for reading

16th of may!

Hey,

Well I haven't posted anything in a while, I was away at FMX last week and this week i've been swamped doing a couple of essays for tomorrow hand in. Anyway I have managed to find some time to animate my cousins project properly and currently rendering it out now but here is one of the shots. Call this a taster if you will.

Having a lot of fun doing this project but i have to stop and concentrate on a couple of project for my Masters. The dealine for this project is next wednesday. It will be around 30 seconds and it basically just showing off the car that the Automotive design team has created in Alias. Here is also a couple of renders to show the cars progression and the agreed look they want.

The car when I got it from the team ^
I added clouds to the back ground, I think they help considerably

Texture they went for, mental ray texture.
Final Result of the car before I changed the texture of the wheel and hid any gaps that maybe showing.

Thanks and let me know what you think

Major project update on 5th

hello, well got an update on the major project for you today. Just some images of the formula cars for the project and the character with hands. some environment stuff, where the crash will happen.

First off though my team have there tasks and they know what they are all doing which is brilliant. three of the member though next week are away including me. but the animator has told me that he will concentrate on the Pre Viz, one of the guys is trying to get the rig sorted for it.

so here is some images for the cars.

 Track shape ^^^ maybe extended.
^ Tunnel has been extended.

^ One style of helmet. (not going for realism)

^ Drivers Steering Wheel (buttons need to be added)

 ^ Wheel simple design.
Pieced together. Looking forward to texturing this up.

Character ^. We have given him eye lids and hands.
Mouth needs abit of work but overall i'm pleased with the result. Also as a group we have decided to make the thread bigger and less of them to make them more defined. Looks harmless and inocent. Just the look I want.

Well thats a wrap this week, have a couple of essay to write, so diving into that tomorrow.
Thanks
Rich.

Project CAR! 3rd of May

hey, so tonight i received a proxy model of the car i will be working with on the project for my cousin and his team. The car i recieved is a obj from there 3d software there using (not sure which on) when it came into maya it came in as nurbs and curves (image below)

I transferred it to polygon as i prefer to work with Polygons. heres the image of that.

now heres the environment that was created in Vue Xstream, I have found it very hard to scuplt a mountain to a flat surfuce, for instance creating a road. Here is a long shot of the place without the road in place.

As you can clouds haven't been added yet nore has background mountain etc, buts it coming along. next image is me putting a road and the car in. The road was very tricky to sort out, in the final result I just extruded the road into the mountain so it didnt look like it was floating.

Here is the car with a simple default mental shader on it. The team asked for red so i agreed.

9 minutes to render this image which isn't to bad, but i know the time will increase when adding a few clouds and making the road more like a road. I also added a few more trees and changed some of the textures in the background.

Deadline is after next week, and I hope I can achieve an end result that will help there project.

Thanks and let me know what you think
Rich.
