20th of December

Hey well its nearing christmas and i'd thought I write an update on the progress im making on my cluedo trainstation scene. Heres a very short quick render of it. its not the final look because I have a lot of lighting to achieve but I thought i'd crack on with it just before christmas. here is also a couple of shots of the crowd and environment.

And here is the stills
some with depth of field

There wont be any upates for a while, but in the new year there will be a few in the first couple of weeks.

Hope you have a very good christmas and new year.

Thanks
Rich

14th of december

Ok so its late at night and thought i'd do a quick post, so here is what i've been working on today and a little bit of yesterday, its batman! for a new animation assignment we have to create a character and a script and have the character interact with another character (which i get to pick from my fellow mates). So here is a quick screen shot of what I have already.

I'm not happy with the mouth at the moment and to be honest character modelling isn't my strong point but I will give it a good shot at this project. That is all today will upload another post tomorrow.

Thanks
Rich

Helllo!

Haven't posted a update in a while so i'd thought i'd do it now. handed in my plug assessment today here is that, the plug was done in my, textures in photoshop, edited together in Adobe Premiere and then put on dvd from Adobe Encore.

Worked on wednesday on a small project in lecture in Adobe After Effects and here what I came up with. this is done with projection mapping and casting shadow on grids which is overlayed on the image. So we then key frame a camera in after effects and you come up with a crazy perspective video. (going to have to load it on youtube then send link)

Last of all here is some images of the trainstation i'm building for next assignment. The images shown are lit by a directional light to represent moonlight.

Been crazy busy over the last week because i've been moving into my new flat, hence why i haven't done a update since. But i will be back to my old routine soon.

Thanks for reading

Hey
here is what i rendered in uni last night, i'm not happy with it at the moment theres a lot of tweaking that needs to be done but here is it.

Here also is what i'm more excited about a quick render of the work i've being doing at Icreate. Cars and trees were given to me. Let me know what you think. Not the finished render but close to it.

so here we are. I'm extremely happy with this piece of work.

December

The 1st and 5 days until my plug project has to be in, playing around with some render techinques. i've learnt alot with using a simple lens shader. Cannot using depth of field or Ambient occlusion on a render. if there is a way please let me know.

heres a couple of quick renders I put together. I'm currently doing a quick render of the whole thing at the moment in University.

Tomorrow I have some touching up to do with the plug, then hopefully tomorrow night render all of it out.

30th of November

Well. We are here at the end of the month, these months are just flying past. Which is quite scary! if I look back on the work I have done this month i'm quite proud to say i've done a lot and I have learnt a lot. We received a new project breif yesterday which we all find interesting.

One of the scenes we have to do is a chase in a train station so i've started modelling that. we were given some props on that and i've decided to make my train station a work of art.

Here is a quick render of that. got a lot more work to do on it.

Currently i'm rendering out my finished look on the house i've been doing for Icreate when that is fully finished in Post production I will post it.

Well thanks for bearing with me on this post, it was really just to sum up the month. next week i will have the plug animation fully done for wednesday (as it has to be done by then). I will post a link up to it.

One more final thing before I leave, I will be finishing my formula one car textured and then given a background not sure what to do for it yet. Any suggestions let me know.

Thanks
Rich

25th of November

Hey, well I'm back home for the weekend and I thought i'd do a quick update for you. As I only have one project to do I thought i'd do some tutorials on lighting, (linear workflow) and play with gamma inputs.

The geometry is from a previous project. Its the pet shop from my major project last year.

This is what I came up with.

Sunshine. The gain is a little bit high, but takes a while to render so I'm not going to do it again.

Here below is a shot of twilight. i'm still getting to know how to do this, so if there are problems then i would like feedback.

both these images using physical sun and sky with a lens shader.

Thanks
Rich

23rd of November

Finished projects handed in. Had some really good feedback from the lectures and my friends. Bring on the next set of projects.

So here is what i'm working on at the moment at ICreate. Not using for a client. But the copyright still goes to the company.

check out there website: http://www.icreate3d.com/?gclid=CMTkz8yyzawCFQkLfAodemc4rw

copyright by Icreate

I've been told to find out what linear workflow is and using Gamma for my textures. Below is what i've achieved with just the walls, in the shot i also changed the phyiscal sun and sky element. You can't see it though as it is classed as a Aplha channel and so when shown the back ground doesn't show.

here is the image

So tomorrow at Icreate I will be doing this to all my textures so it'll remove all of the Gamma.

new post tomorrow

thanks

22nd of November part two

Hey again its me lol.

Now from the previous update which was a couple of hours ago, i've managed to have help with one of the projects that has to be in tomorrow. Thank you miss Sophie Bowyer.

http://bowyersophie.tumblr.com/

Check it out, brilliant graphic artist.

Anyways down to business here is a step by step of the visual studies assignment for tomorrow.

Well as mentioned before I had a problem with the background so i used an image instead of a drawing, here below is the photograph I used.

This Photo above is from google, and its Dubai's racing track where they host the formula 1 every year as one of the last races of the season.

After taking the photo into photoshop, I felt the needed to edit it to make it my own. adding filter (Artist brush layer) and putting a layer mask on it, adding gradient to the mask. This made the bottom left stylised. I also added Gaussian Blur because its in the background.

Using the pen tool I cut out Lewis Hamilton from another Psd file. He was then added to the piece and I put a mask and a gradient on that as well. He's in the mid ground so I added a little bit of blur to the image. I didn't really have to play around with the lighting because I wanted it to be higher contrast to the back ground to stand out. I faded his legs in the background because I wanted to place a formula 1 car in front of him.

Next step was to fill a gap on the right with a forground character and I thought the best person for the job was lewis's team mate jenson button, I like whatIi did with lewis and the fade into the background so I did it again. Here is that next step.

After I was happy with the position of jenson I concentrated on getting a rendered formula one car. Now because the final image will have most of its coloured drained it wasn't that important to texture the car. So I rendered the car in Maya and dropped in front of lewis. I wanted to keep the car smaller than the figure to connote who is more important in racing. Now these days there just as important as each other so I kept the car a little bit smaller than the two men.

So the car was my Computer Element now I had to add a drawn part to the image and this is what I came up with. The image is susposed to belong in the 1890's so car racing had just started out so I thought i'd draw the words 'road racing the future' now it can be betrayed as a 1890 poster.

Here it is

My friend Sophie Bowyer helped me with this bit. a lot of the time I was flicking between B/W and Colour just to see the difference. This helped because instead of changing the colours to stand out of the page I had to think about the contrasts.

so here is
So here is the black and white this was done with a simple channel mixer. Even though most images from the 1890's are black and white a few of them have a bit of yellow too them. (sepia) this effect gives a real old look. Sophie had downloaded developed actions and it helped a lot on this project we used the 'cappacino' action and it gave rather than just a yellowish look, it gave a small brown feel to it as well. (like its dirty).

so here is the final piece.

Three different layers each on Overlay allowed me to create this effect. It gives a nice sense of depth to the image and to be honest makes all that hard work pay off.

Well that basically thats how I did the visual studies project. wish me good luck for tomorrow

Update on Icreate work tomorrow.

Thanks
Rich

22nd of November

Hello, Assessment went well on friday heres a few images from my presentation for the Dissertation Proposal. I'm doing my Dissertation on film and games environments. This means doing a compassion between the two. 4000 words so its not to bad. (update images when home)

Here is two screen shots of the presentation.

The presentation itself last 15 minutes and then there was a couple of questions afterwards.

There will be two updates tonight as I have also got two assessments tomorrow. (That means I would have had 4 assessments in 5 days) which is abit crazy. This is an animation update and later on I will complete a visual studies update. so all my animations have been done ready for tomorrow some of them to be honest i'm not happy with but it was good to get pointers on certain aspects and wait to hear some feedback tomorrow. I don't like animating, I like the environments as you can tell by my work and over the next couple of weeks if i'm allowed I will be updating my Icreate work.

Most of my animation is further down my blog so check them out but here is the curious primitive.

Thanks
Rich

Visual studies quick update.

This is what i've got so far for my visual studies piece, at first i had a drawing of the track in the back ground but there was no colour and i did not like it.  The whole point of the project is to show that we can use masks and layers comps together to form an piece of work that looks good.

Here it is.

Updating animations later as the update did not work because they are the wrong file format. 2 days away from first project in and i'm very nervous. i'm hopefully finishing my dissertation proposal today and then creating the presentation tomorrow.

Thanks
Rich

15th of November!

3 days away from my dissertation proposal and presentation has to be handed in. Hopfully going to get that in. here is though what i've done for my animation assignment and my visual studies assignment.

Today I was concentrating on the wizard animation trying to figure out what I was going to do for it. i was inspired by a friend.

Here is a couple of stills and then the animation I got of it so far. Needs a lot of tweaking.

Had a lot of fun doing these. here is the animation, still needs a lot of work.

Here also is walking through space animation which i did this morning and had a lot of fun doing this one too! it needs tweaking but hopfully i'll have enough time to do it before it needs to be handed in on tuesday.
here is the video,

Hello!

here is two more Animations, walking animation and expressions. Had a lot of fun doing the walking animation and now finishing my other animations off. as there in for a week tuesday i need to get my head down and finish all of them.

Walking Animation

Expression, where three cups are put in front of a character and the brief explained that it had to go from boredom to excitement.

I've been working at Icreate today and i've finished a project there so hopefully I can upload a photo of that next week at some point. I will also be uploading a drawing tomorrow of another assignment i've been doing for my module (visual studies).

Thanks
Rich

Well here there are they all need tweaking but there almost done, a couple of animations.

Bouncing Ball -

Have the next couple of animations done by tuesday and my dissertation proposal for Friday. This year as you can tell is a lot more tense.

But after these assignments are in im going to use Mari or Photoshop to texture my formula one car.

Thanks

9th of November

9th of November and 9 days until my dissertation proposal. eeeeek! I have so much work to do. Today I thought i'd show you some animation work i've been doing for one of the assignments. but first here is a master beauty render of clockwork. Its linked to youtube because the file was to large to upload on here.

So i have 8 small animations for the assignment.

I have to animate;

Ball bouncing
Another ball bouncing but in a different scene
Primitive Animation
Clockwork
Eyes (Expression)
Character casting a spell
Walking animation
Walking in Space

The character and everything was given to us, i'm not the best animator but when I get into it I enjoy it. Over the next couple of days I will upload each one.

Thanks
Rich

Tomorrow i have uni very early and getting on with animation work for my animation project and my dissertation proposal, so i will have some work for you guys tomorrow to see.

here is the plug animation

That is all.

3rd of November

Today was a long day! The morning consisted of me working at Icreate a 3d Architectural Visualisation company and afterwards ended up in uni for a lecture. I cannot show you what i did at Icreate as i'm now working on commercial work and therefore cannot take any of it from office.

Here though is what i worked on in lecture, Renders of clockwork animation and plug. the render of the plug has just been tweaked.

Renders of Plug. just a few lights in a sphere.

so below is clockwork animation still render. Combination of a AO and a beauty pass, and then put together in Photoshop one over layed the other to form an interesting looking piece of work. This will be in the start of my portfolio!

Thanks
Rich

2nd of November quick update

After yesterdays blog I realised how much it helped me to write down what i have done on the projects and this is another quick update on the work I've done over the last couple of weeks.

Here is a still of a animation I did after my lecture yesterday for an assignment in several weeks time. The gears are polygons and driven by expressions will upload a photo of the code and video of it working on the weekend when im on my mac.

I've also done today a quick couple of renders for the house im building for Icreate. Tomorrow they will be reviewing it and telling me what needs to be changed. It doesn't need to be finished because i have so much other work on. this is what i've come up with.

That's all for now, I will hopfully updating this regularly for personal use. Now focusing on my animation for the project hand in and a dissertation proposal.

Thanks
Rich

First load of work

Well im back at University for another year and i'm excited to be. After weeks of trying to get a job in the industry and working part time as a junior Chef for the Crown at Whitebrook check it out: http://www.crownatwhitebrook.co.uk/

On the other hand i've been working for my lecturer with his project if you check out the summer projects blog that is all there for that. Currently the project is on hold because of University term time has started again.

So now i'm back working on my Showreel and chugging along doing my masters. The big reason behind me coming back to do the Masters was because I managed to get a Scholarship for the course. So all course fees paid and i get paid a certian amount a month to do it.

Jumping into the masters was very difficult i knew there was going to be a lot of work but i didn't gather there be this much. several assignments have been given to us and so did my usual thing and start some personal projects. I've been modelling a formula 1 car. Recently I went up to CodeMasters the company that has developed the Formula 1 games and are now producing other great games. Here is the Formula car modelled not textured. as the work has gotten abit too much im holding of the texturing and focusing all my effort on my projects.

I had alot of fun doing this formula 1 car and i made sure this didn't effect my work for the masters. Another thing i've been doing and part of my course, is a 140 hour work placement with a company called Icreate. they are a 3D architectual visualisation (not sure that's how you spell it) but this is a trial house I have to model, texture and light it. they will tell me where i'm going wrong and hopfully I can create some models for them that they can use.

For one of my assignments I have to create a plug and animate in such a way that someone can wire it. you would be surprised how hard it is to model a 13 amp Plug. This assignment has to be in for the 8th of december. I also have a animation assignment and then a dissertation proposal to complete for late November. I will show that in the next blog update as i still have a lot of work to do on that. here some images of the plug.

The plug has basic texture and i will be putting Mia_texture nods on plug so when rendered with mental ray it will come out alot more crisp and clean.
