Result!

hey

Here is the final video that the team and I came up with.

After this I will be creating a new blog, named projects. Where me and acouple of guys are doing some 5 - 10 second compositing work.

Thanks
and any questions don't hestiate to ask.

Lighting for Screwed

hi,

Today I had a look through my lighting set up and thought i'd write it down for my own self and for anyone who is interested. outside the tunnel was the physical sun and sky set and a Image based lighting. so this was the hdri image that was used for it.

It helped lite up the tunnel a little bit.

so inside the tunnel, there is several area lights and several spot lights to create pools of light. adding after 12 the renders were taking too long. so physical sun and sky was used to create a atmosphere in the tunnel here is a screen shot and a render of that.

Thanks

Black holing and Shadowing

Howdy.

Here is some stuff on Black holing objects in a scene so that the cars and character are intereacting with geometry in a scene.

For example he is the ferrari, the geometry around it has been black holed so that when its rendered everything around the car will be black. any interference the car would interact with it so its actually there. when the environment is then comped over in Nuke the car looks like it going behind the object.

For shadows it was quite difficult to figure out how to implement shadows to a scene. deleting the lighting set up and making the back ground white. Use background was used on the floor, so that was white then primary visability was switched off on the cars.

whiched produced shadows like this one.

rendering settings

hey

Here is the latest Previs.

Well the deadline is on thrusday and theres quite a lot of work to do. In this update I will be discussing the Rendering settings used on the Production Screwed. each screen shot is part of the process changing the render settings so that we could finished the project in time. At this time in the project we currently have 10 shots to finish rendering and compositing. we most likely won't have everything rendered on time but we are doing our best.

File Format

Open Exr (Nuke)
Zip to compress the image size.

The start frame and end frame which is in orange is a layer override so when a car comes into shot it renders from that frame and ends wherever the car is not in shot or the end of the shot.

HD720 was picked because its hd resoultion at a smaller size so render times weren't through the roof.

custom sampling = low for less render times. anti aliasing kept to default.

Raytracing and final gathering kept to low settings because the cars and environments were taking to render. so thats the general settings for rendering of screwed and images like this one was being produced.

3 weeks till deadline

hey,

Coming to the end of the project (Screwed) and we are still a long way off the final. We are going through rendering at the moment and still have 30 shots to finish animating, lighting, rendering and compositing. My comp guy has set up the composite and I have set up rendering. We are waiting on certain aspects to start rendering the next 7 - 8 shots which should be rendered by next wednesday. lighting is holding up and so as director i've decided to go ahead with it. Here is some renders of that.

I dont want the lighting to be to time consuming on Rendering time so at the minute its rendering at 5 minutes a frame. I'm happy with this outcome where pools of light are stationary because of the overhead lighting on the track and hopefully by tomorrow I hit render for the shots inside the tunnel.

Different layers and passes are important for this production,

9 different passes are being used
ambient Occlusion
ambient
diffuse
specular
2d vector motion pass
reflection
shadow
beauty
Camera Depth

and here are some of the different passes for shot1

these are passed onto the compositor as exrs and hopefully I will have something to show for next week.

Thanks
Rich

5th of august.

Hey,

Here i've taken off another member of the team and added debri, still needs a bit of work but i'm getting to the point where I would like to stick the cameras in and hand animation some debri according to the camera.

Thanks

August 1st Animation/Production for Screwed

Hey,

If you haven't looked at previous updates I reconmend you do.
but here is the sysnopsis of the Animation which should be completed by the 6th of september. (Screwed.)

“A Wheel Bolt on a formula 1 car is part of a large crash in a corner tunnel on the mountains of Croatia. The audience is taken through his adventure as he tries to jump to freedom and escape the peril of the crash.”
Well 1 month and 5 days until the project has to be in and the team are working hard on the crash and the animation, trying to proceed onto the next task. lighting and rendering. I got for you today some quick renders, animation stuff and debri. I've also told the team I want all the animation done by the 10th of august.

Above you can see the three images, bearing in mind the lighting hasn't really been touched. This is looking good with the cars in the scene. For the past couple of weeks a large issue has come up on several occasions. The reference system has many errors, from not being referenced properly or the lack of rendering. So as director I’ve decided to just import the cars into the scene, this makes the process a lot faster.

Here is the opening shot of the animation. going to try and do the water in nuke compositing and going to add a hdri image and a background in maya.

Another test but the wing is moving. To fix the problem it was hidden up to the point and then shown when the animation was needed.

I quickly did a test to develop an understanding of particle collisions. Making the particles colide with the geometry making the geometry fly in different directions.

Comparison between shot two 2 months ago and shot 2 a week ago.

here is just a playblast of the cars with the shaders. Shot 2

This shot ^^ (21). I created the stepped animation and now passed it on to james who has taken the cars further down the track so they dont stop so suddenly, he's also sorting out the timing.

Thanks
